1. President Muhammadu Buhari, Thursday rejected four bills passed by the House of Representatives. Buhari communicated his rejection via a letter read during plenary. The bills include the Corporate Manslaughter bill, 2018; Agricultural Credit Scheme (amendment) bill, 2018; National Child Protection and Enforcement Agency bill as well as Courts and Tribunal Standard Scales of Fines and Financial Penalties bill.

2. The Legal Practitioners Privileges Committee (LPPC) on Thursday, confirmed 31 lawyers as Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SAN). The list was announced during a briefing at the Supreme Court complex in Abuja. The Secretary of the Committee, Hadizatu Mustapha said the successful candidates will take their oath on September 24.

3. The All Progressives Congress (APC) has denied the claim by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that policemen were drafted to Ekiti State to harass PDP supporters in Saturday’s governorship election in favour of the its governorship candidate, Dr Kayode Fayemi. Bolaji Abdullahi, APC National Publicity Secretary, in a statement, said as usual with elections, extra security deployment was routine to keep the peace for credible and transparent elections.

4. Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential aspirant, Kabiru Tanimu Turaki has condemned Police attacks on the Governor of Ekiti, Ayodele Fayose and the law-abiding citizens of the state. He said the development further proved that Nigerians were going through bad leadership under President Muhammadu Buhari. He said the Ekiti saga was another low point in the litany of breaches of the Constitution and indeed, the rule of law which has become the hallmark of the APC-led Federal Government.

5. Jerry Gana, a former Minister of Information and a chieftain of the Social Democratic Party, SDP, has officially declared his intention to run for the office of the president. Gana, while declaring his intention on Thursday, stated that Nigeria was facing a threat to its existence. The former Minister said the present government has shown incompetence and lack of capability to turn around the nation’s fortune.

6. Armed bandits have resumed their criminal activities on Birnin-Gwari road. The gunmen were said to have killed and kidnapped travellers on the same route between Wednesday night and Thursday morning. Report claims they whisked them away into the bush.

7. The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has berated President Muhammadu Buhari and what it termed “dysfunctional All Progressives Congress, APC,” for attempting to claim credit for the Abuja Light Rail Project. Reacting, the opposition party said despite trying to claim its projects, “Nigerians are aware that the project was conceptualized, initiated and policy-propelled” by it. The statement was by PDP’s spokesperson, Kola Ologbondiyan.

8. The Peoples Democratic Party on Thursday in different parts of the country, including Abuja protested against the alleged assault on the Ekiti State Governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose, by the police on Wednesday. The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Uche Secondus, led the National Working Committee of the party to the National Assembly in the protest that held in Abuja.

9. The candidate of the All Progressives Congress in the forthcoming Ekiti State governorship election, Dr Kayode Fayemi, and his counterpart in the Peoples Democratic Party, Prof. Kolapo Olusola-Eleka, on Thursday, were absent at a debate for candidates in the election. The debate was, however, attended by Mr Abiodun Aluko of the Accord Party, Mr Akinloye Ayegbusi of the Social Democratic and Mr Segun Adewale of the Action Democratic Party.

10. A report has claimed that The nation’s foreign exchange reserves have fallen by $102m. The report claimed that available data obtained from the Central Bank of Nigeria on Thursday showed that the reserves stood at $47.697bn on July 11, down from $47.799bn on July 5.
