1. A major tsunami hit the All Progressives Congress on Tuesday as no fewer than 17 Senators on the platform of the ruling party defected to the Peoples Democratic Party and the African Democratic Congress during the plenary. Toping the list of the defectors were, former governor of Kano State, Musa Rabiu Kwankwaso, Dino Melaye and a host of others.
2. No fewer than 37 members of the House of Representatives on Tuesday also dumped the All Progressives Congress for the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
In the defection letter read by Yakubu Dogara, speaker of the house, the lawmakers cited factionalisation and division in the party as their reason for leaving.
3. Senate President, Bukola Saraki outsmarted men of the Nigeria Police, Department of the Security Service and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, on Tuesday in their bid to place him under house arrest.
Reports said Saraki escaped from the house and drove himself to the National Assembly Complex where he presided over the sitting; however, his deputy, Ike Ekweremadu was unlucky as the security forces placed him on house arrest, thereby preventing him from attending the plenary.
4. Meanwhile, many Nigerians have frowned at the failed attempts by the security forces to place Saraki and Ekweremadu under house arrest.
Femi Fani Kayode, Balarabe Musa, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Reno Omokri, Ayo Fayose and several Nigerians slammed the security teams for going political.
5. Benue State Speaker, Terkimbi Ikyange has been reportedly impeached by the House members.
Hon. Titus Uba (representing Kyan constituency Vandeikya) is now the new Speaker, while Hon. Terna-kester Kyenge is now the Chief Whip.
6. The Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, Tuesday night had a closed-door meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari.
Details of the meeting, which held behind closed-doors at the Presidential Villa, Abuja are yet to be made public at the moment as the police IG shunned newsmen after the meeting.
7. The Presidency has condemned “the orchestrated campaign against President Muhammadu Buhari” each time a Very Important Person (VIP) is invited by the law enforcement agencies.
Presidential spokesman, Garba Shehu, in statement stated that the law of the land is intended for all, not for the poor or those at the lowest rungs of the social ladder.
8. President Muhammadu Buhari has reacted to the massive defection of Senators and House of Reps members to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
Buhari in a statement by his special adviser on media and publicity, Mr. Garba Shehu,expressed total commitment to the values of democracy, freedom of choice as well as total willingness to work with all members of the National Assembly, irrespective of their political party, for the benefit of the nation.
9. Chris Giwa, the embattled president of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), says truth will prevail between him and Amaju Pinnick, on who ought to be the president of NFF.
Giwa insisted that no amount of intimidation would make him give up his mandate to be the NFF president.
10. The Senate Tuesday hurriedly adjourned plenary until September 26 given the current uncertainty in the nation’s political environment.
Also, the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, is now in majority with the recent defection of the 15 lawmakers from the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.
