1. Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha, has claimed that the emergence of Adams Oshiomhole as the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress saved the party from imploding.

Okorocha said in spite of the challenges currently facing the APC, with Oshiomhole in the saddle, the party would land at a safe destination.

2. The lawmaker representing Kogi West Senatorial District, Senator Dino Melaye, has said contrary to the kidnap reports, the gunmen who attacked his vehicle on his way to Kogi State on Thursday wanted to kill him.

Melaye said he escaped the alleged assassination attempt around Gwagwalada, along the Abuja-Lokoja Road on his way to attend a court case in Lokoja, the state capital.

3. Unidentified gunmen terrorizing Ughelli communities, and its environs in Delta State, in the early hours of on Sunday, killed a 36-year-old Otor Iwhere community youth leader, Ejiro Ikpikpini.

He was murdered right inside his house, during which his wife was also stabbed.

4. Operatives of the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad in the Imo State Police Command have arrested one Garrick Slacks, a dismissed United States soldier, for allegedly defrauding Nigerians with fake promises to secure visas and other travelling documents to US for them.

The suspect, who was arrested on Saturday, was in the custody of the state Police Command in Owerri.

5. Governor Umaru Al-Makura of Nasarawa State on Sunday relieved nine commissioners and two Special Advisers of their appointments in a cabinet shuffle.

Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Mohammed Abdullahi, said the cabinet reshuffle was to enable the affected persons to focus on their political aspirations in the 2019 general elections and for others to pursue their goals.

6. The Independent National Electoral Commission has budgeted the sum of N1.8bn for a possible Presidential run-off in 2019.

The N1, 860, 952, 928 is for election logistics expenses, including movement, deployment and retrieval of men and materials in the event of a run-off.

7. A former Deputy Defence Adviser, Nigeria High Commission, London, United Kingdom, Group Captain Henry Unaeze (retd.) has accused the Bukola Saraki-led Senate of consciously sabotaging the efforts of President Muhammadu Buhari.

He, therefore, called on Nigerians to inject fresh blood in the country’s upper legislative chamber in 2019 by voting out almost 90 per cent of the crop of the senators the country currently had.

8. The Consul General of Nigeria in South Africa, Godwin Adama, has condemned the alleged killing of a Nigerian, Linus Chibuzor-Nwankwo from Enugu State by a fellow Nigerian, Lawrence Nwarienne from Anambra, in that country.

Adama, in a statement said the 42-year-old Chibuzor-Nwankwo was shot by Nwarienne another Nigerian operating a bar in South Africa, in the early hours of Friday in Kempton Park, Johannesburg, South Africa.

9. The Ijaw Youths Council (IYC), has cried out over the decision of the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Ibrahim Idris, to post four Commissioners of Police to Bayelsa State.

Secretary-General of the IYC, Mr. Alfred Kemepado, said in a statement on Sunday that the action of the Force Headquarters was a surreptitious plot by the All Progressives Congress (APC) to politicize the security architecture of the state, with the sole aim of causing instability and destabilizing Bayelsa State.

10. Nigerian Army on Sunday said it killed 16 Boko Haram members and recovered a cache of weapons during its clearance operation in Mairari village in Monguno Local Government Area of Borno.

Col. Onyema Nwachukwu, Deputy Director Public Relations, Theatre Command Operation Lafiya Dole, who disclosed this in a statement released in Maiduguri, said the troops also recovered two gun trucks abandoned by the insurgents during the encounter.”
