1. Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State on Wednesday officially announced his resignation from the All Progressives Congress, APC.

Tambuwal, who made the announcement on Wednesday while addressing a gathering at the Government House, Sokoto, said he left the APC because of the level of impunity and disunity in the party.

2. Over 5,000 youths drawn from various groups, on Wednesday, paralyzed commercial activities in Makurdi, the Benue State capital over what they termed police brutality in the State.

The youth groups displaying placards bearing various inscriptions lamented that Nigeria’s democracy was under threat, describing the former Benue State governor, George Akume as a betrayal for selling out his people. They also described President Muhammadu Buhari as a threat to the nation’s democracy.

3. The chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Kwara State, Iyiola Oyedepo, has dumped the party for the All Progressives Congress (APC)

Oyedepo insisted that he can never work with the Senate President, Bukola Saraki who recently joined the PDP.

4. Twenty-three members of the Kwara State House of Assembly, KHAS, on Wednesday defected to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

The lawmakers’ resignation was contained in a letter read by the speaker of the state legislature, Rt. Hon. Alli Ahmad, on Wednesday. They said that their exit was informed by factionalization of the ruling party at the local level.

5. Bolaji Abdullahi has officially resigned as the National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Despite insisting he would not leave the ruling party through the backdoor on Tuesday night, Abdullahi took to his Twitter page to confirm his exit on Wednesday.

6. A Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the arrest of the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Mahmood Yakubu, for failing to appear before it.

The order was given by the presiding judge, Justice Stephen Pam following Yakubu’s absence from the court for the third time. It ruled on a preliminary objection by INEC and it’s Chairman in a contempt proceeding filed by Ejike Oguebego and Chuks Okoye, Chairman and Legal Adviser of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Anambra State, respectively.

7. A High Court in Makurdi, Benue State has given a 7-day notice to the impeached Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly, Mr Terkimbi Ikyange, his Deputy, Mr James Okefe and the Majority Leader, Benjamin Adanyi, to appear before it.

The court summoned the three lawmakers to explain why they should not be committed to prison for contempt and violation of last Friday’s order restraining them from parading themselves as principal officers of the State Assembly.

8. The Court of Appeal in Abuja has endorsed the powers of the National Assembly to make laws, including the Bill amending election sequence.

The court also dismissed the judgement of a Federal High Court in Abuja, which on April 25 stopped the National Assembly from overriding the assent of the president in the Bill.

9. The Nigeria Police have ordered the withdrawal of Mobile Policeman, otherwise known as MOPOL currently on special duties in Benue State.

A signal dated July 31 and sent to the COMOPOL headquarters in Makurdi and obtained by DAILY POST, asked all mobile policemen across the state to withdraw with immediate effect.

10. Eighteen Sokoto State House of Assembly members on Wednesday defected from the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Reports say that the Speaker, Alhaji Salihu Maidaji, who was among the 18 defecting members, made the announcement at the Assembly plenary on Wednesday.
