1. The Department of State Services (DSS) has pleaded with the Nigerian media to avoid reports aimed at denigrating the agency. It said such reports could lead to national insecurity and as such the media should avoid being used by self-serving individuals to attack the agency. This was contained in a statement issued by its spokesman, Afunanya Peter.
2. Reports have claimed that a former Kano State Governor, Malam Ibrahim Shekarau, has resolved to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressive Congress (APC). His media aide, Sule Ya’u Sule gave the hint on Tuesday. The official defection is, however, yet to take place.
3. Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force, on Tuesday, raided the residence of the leader of Pan-Niger Delta Forum, PANDEF, Edwin Clark. Report claims the officers alleged that they were in the house to search for arms which they accused Clark of keeping. But the IGP has denied knowledge of the raid, directing the Monitoring Unit to investigate and immediately detain the four policemen and the informant involved in the raid.
4. Tragedy was Tuesday averted as Arik Air aircraft operating from Benin City Airport to Lagos Airport, on Tuesday aborted take-off when the Pilot-in-Command observed an abnormality during the process. Communication Manager of Arik Air, Mr Ola Adebanji, explained that the aircraft, a Bombardier CRJ900, was brought under control on the runway in the process with no damage to the aircraft and no injury was sustained to the passengers on board.
5. A fake Economic and Financial Crimes Commission official identified as Simon Bolki, was Tuesday arrested in Adamawa House of Assembly while attempting to dupe the Majority Leader, Mr. Hassan Barguma. Barguma claims the suspect approached him in his office with a fake EFCC identity card, claiming to be from the Intelligence Unit of the commission.
6. Former President of the Senate, Senator David Mark, while launching an economic blueprint titled ‘730 economic model’, on Tuesday picked up his Presidential nomination form at the Wadata Plaza, PDP National Secretariat, Abuja. This marks his formal declaration to run for the office of the president.
7. Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, has challenged anyone with proof of corrupt practices against him to make it public. The Wazirin Adamawa gave the challenge in Ado Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital during a meeting with the state Governor, Ayodele Fayose and other stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
8. Some lawmakers in the Kwara State House of Assembly, including the Speaker, Ali Ahmad, have denied financial inducement for their recent defection to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP. The lawmakers on Tuesday at plenary insisted they were not induced with money for their decision to quit the APC.
9. Former Aviation Minister, Fani-Kayode who reported to the IGP’s office at 12noon on Tuesday has disclosed that he was invited because of his essay about Fulani hegemony and terrorism. He said he was handled professionally, but insisted he would continue to speak out.
10. Coach of the senior national team of Nigeria, Salisu Yusuf, has been banned from all football-related activities in Nigeria for one year after he was caught on tape accepting cash to pick players in his WAFU team squad. The video was recorded in Ghana during the WAFU Championship by a Ghanaian reporter, Anas Aremeyaw Anas.
