Nigeria Security Agencies Arrest 41 Homosexual Suspects
Security Agencies in Bauchi state of Nigeria have arrested 41 homosexual suspects in the state.
The suspects were arrested in a joint operation carried out by the Bauchi state police command and the Nigeria Security Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).
It was learnt that Police had charged 37 suspects to court while NSCDC paraded 4 suspects.
Confirming the incident, the stars Command Public Relations Officer Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Kamal Datti Abubakar said the police had charged 37 homosexual suspects to court.
According to him, “though we gathered through intelligent report that the suspects were homosexuals but we didn’t charge them to court as homosexuals or lesbians since we didn’t caught them in the act but we charge them with public nuisance since they were arrested while organizing a birthday Party”.
He said Police acted on intelligence report and arrested the suspects and reiterated the commitment of the Police to protect lives and properties of its citizens.
In his reaction, the Bauchi State Commissioner for Religious Affairs Alhaji Ado Aska Zigau said “ the suspects were arrested based on intelligence reports that some lesbians and homosexuals planned a gathering at the Federal Secretariat conference hall Bauchi, security operatives were mobilized to the scene and they arrested quite a number of suspects as each security team arrested some suspects and took them to their offices for interrogation,”.
Meanwhile, the state command of NSCDC on its own has paraded four homosexual suspects .
Parading the suspects, Public Relations Officer PRO of the Civil Defense DSC Garkuwa Y. Adamu said” on 1st September 2018 intelligence information revealed that some group of youths suspected to be Homosexuals were having a meeting at Federal Secretariat Bauchi and we swung into action and arrested four suspects.
“The suspects are Abubakar Adamu 18,, Usman Jibrin Abubakar 20,, Dalhatu Hassan 19 and Mukhtar Bala Mohammed 20.
“We recovered Three Jincheng Motor cycles, one Haojue Ladies Motor cycle, one generator set , three birthday cake, four GSM Phones and other souvenirs during the operation,” he said.
He said investigation into the matter has commenced adding that “anyone found guilty will be charge to court.
Speaking to newsmen one of the suspects, Abubakar Adamu who was among the four suspects paraded by NSCDC said “ we are not gay, we don’t have lesbians among us , I organized a birthday party and invited my friends , I sat with a female friend when I was arrested. I am a tailor, we followed due process and applied for a Federal Secretariat Conference hall which they gave us, after we finished the birthday, we saw security operatives that came in and arrested us, but we are not homosexuals and we don’t belong to any association.
When asked how he got money to organize a birthday, He said “I am a tailor my customers pay me between N400 up to N2, 500, my friends contributed some of the items and I have learnt my lesson and I will not organized a birthday party again,” he said.
