1. Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, has emerged winner of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, presidential election ahead of the 2019 general elections. Atiku polled a total of 1532 votes to defeat his closest rival, Aminu Tambuwal, who polled 693 votes. Sen. While Bukola Saraki polled 317 votes, Gov. Ibrahim Dankwambo had 111, Sen. Rabiu Kwankwaso, 158, Ahmed Makarfi, 74 votes. Others are Sen. David Mark (35 votes); Sule Lamido (96 votes); Atahiru Bafarawa (48 votes).
2. The President Muhammadu Buhari campaign organization has reacted to the emergence of former Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar as the Peoples Democratic Party’s presidential candidate. The presidential campaign team said Atiku was only able to win the primary because he bought delegates votes. This was contained in a statement signed by its spokesperson, Festus Keyamo, SAN.
3. The presidency distanced President Muhammadu Buhari from a letter currently in circulation, which alleged that the President had authorized Governor El-Rufai to “deal with traitors and disloyal members of APC, especially Senator Shehu Sani.”
A statement signed by Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, claimed that the President is not aware of any such letter, let alone authorising anyone to deal with any party member.
4. Aisha Buhari, wife of President Muhammadu Buhari, has criticized the primary elections conducted by the All Progressives Congress, APC, in some states. Aisha in a post on her verified Twitter page, expressed disappointment over the processes employed during the elections. She called on Nigerians to speak out against such impunity employed by the ruling party’s leadership.
5. Report says the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has resolved to give return tickets to three of the losers from Sunday’s presidential primary. They are: Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State, Senate President, Bukola Saraki and Senator Rabiu Kwankwanso. They are to be compensated with tickets for the Sokoto governorship, Kwara Central and Kano Central Senatorial positions respectively.
6. The Allied Congress Party of Nigeria (ACPN) has adopted Dr Oby Ezekwesili, a former Minister of Education and co-convener “Bring Back Our Girls movement”, as its presidential candidate for the 2019 presidential election. Her candidacy was ratified at the party’s convention on Sunday in Abuja.
7. SKC Ogbonnia, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has expressed concern about the emergence of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar as the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate. Ogbonnia said Nigerians should worry because the PDP has voted an ageless suspect for president. His reaction was contained in a statement Sunday night.
8. The Coalition of United Political Parties, CUPP, has congratulated former Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and other presidential aspirants who emerged from political parties in the alliance. The Coalition established that the end of the individual party primaries marked the beginning of the main work which was now to select a consensus candidate among them. This was contained in a statement signed by the CUPP’s National Spokesperson, Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere.
9. The founder and General Overseer of the Latter Rain Church, Pastor Tunde Bakare, has said that for the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to win the 2019 elections, it would need to demonstrate to Nigerians that they were a regenerated party and “show repentance for the years of the locust they engineered.” The pastor maintained that the opposition party would need to “convince the electorates that they would not return to corruption,” which he said was “the way of life during its rule,” to win their confidence.
10. The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), has said that about 200,000 candidates have been offered admission by the board, for the 2018/2019 academic session. The Head, Media and Information of the JAMB, Dr Fabian Benjamin, who disclosed this on Sunday in Lagos, said that the admission took effect after the board’s policy meeting in June in Gbongon, Osun.
