Ghana to consider ‘Transit X’ for public transit
Transit X a privately-funded shared mobility network with the convenience, capacity, and cost to replace buses, trains, cars, trucks, and short flights is set to improve the country’s transportation.
The introduction of this system in Ghana is said to be convenient, safe, affordable, dependable, sustainable, fast, private, comfortable, and accessible.
It is accessible to the physically challenged citizens according to the president of Transit X Ghana Limited, Mr Kweku Yankey. Transit X is a suspended, ultra-narrow gauge rail network with ultra-light pod vehicles and is the only means of transportation that wants less of congestion, carbon/ GHG (Greenhouse Gas) emissions, pollution, injuries/deaths, and taxes. It is 100% solar powered.
It’s carbon-free and zero pollution. Solar cells on the track provide the energy to charge pods.
Speaking to the DAILY HERITAGE, he said “We want more of: economic development, resiliency, access to jobs, and green space. Transit X is proposed to start it’s piloting from areas where there is heavy traffic in the country like from Kasoa to Accra. Transit X’s economics will make it possible to rapidly transform the transportation system to be car-free and carbon-free.”
He added that “The problems with our existing transportation systems are well known. Cars, buses and trucks put a signi?cant toll on the environment and society. Conventional mass transit and high-speed rail are too expensive, and buses are inconvenient. Bicycles only serve a small segment of the population. Transit X™ is personal mass transit that solves these problems and provides nonstop, 24/7, wait-free, resilient, all-weather service that is quiet, attractive, safe, and seamlessly fits within cities, beside highways, and along rail corridors.”
The system is available in seven cities in the United States of America, some countries in Africa including Ghana which will start operations soon. It aims to rapidly transform the world’s transportation system into one that is both economically and ecologically sustainable. Our goal is to enable cities and suburbs to be both car-free and carbon-free.
About Transit X
Transit X also referred to as ‘Flying solar pods’ is said to be affordable and fares are comparable to conventional mass transit. Each pod is said to carry a single passenger or up to a family of five, quietly cruise above traffic under a narrow track. Destinations are entered via smartphone or kiosk prior to boarding. Passenger’s board pods at stops that are as convenient as taxi or bus stops. A pod takes off and cruises nonstop until landing at the destination.
Pods quickly accelerate up a ramp to merge onto the track, and then travel non-stop at 73 km/h (45 mph) until reaching the exit ramp at the destination stop. It is a fully automated transportation network with high-capacity interchanges that provide fast, congestion-free travel. Transit X has a minimal footprint on roads or sidewalks — often less area than street lights and bus shelters.
Transit X is a fully-automated transportation network with high-capacity interchanges and stops that provide fast and wait-free travel. A single track provides the capacity of a 12-lane highway. Installation is fast and minimally disruptive. It has a lower visual impact than vehicles and roadways. Transit X provides door-to-door service for both passengers and freight.
Transit X helps make cities both greener and cleaner. Unsightly black asphalt can be supplanted by an elegant ribbon that unifies a city. Transit X can help a city recover its most valuable resources — land and clean air. Once again, cities can have a vibrant and active street life.
Transit X is offered as a service to municipalities and organizations without public funding or capital budgets. Transit X is a privately owned and operated mobility service that scales to service both the world’s largest cities as well as low-density suburbs.
