1. The Coalition for Nigeria Movement led by former President Olusegun Obasanjo has blasted the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration for imposing a travel ban on 50 Nigerians.
Reacting to the ban which has generated reactions, CNM in a statement by its Director, Strategic communications, Akin Osuntokun, on Sunday described the ban as a subversion of the rule of law, reminiscent of military decrees.
2. Presiding Bishop of the Living Faith Church Worldwide, (Winners’ Chapel), Bishop David Oyedepo, has insisted that he never received bribe from any politician.
Oyedepo, who during his Sunday sermon entitled: ‘Covenant day of open doors’, maintained that he belonged to no political party and as such would not receive bribe from any politician.
3. Youth wing of the apex Igbo socio-cultural organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo has warned South-East governors not to allow their political interest override the collective interest of Ndigbo, especially as the 2019 general election approaches.
President-General of Ohanaeze Youth Wing, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzo called on all Igbo leaders, including the governors to work harmoniously for the total victory of the Presidential candidate of the PDP, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and his running mate, Peter Obi, in the forthcoming general election.
4. Kano governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, has appeared in a video clip receiving bribe, amounting to about $5million from contractors in the state.
The sting operation to capture the governor on camera began two years ago when one of the contractors agreed to plant spy camera on his kaftan lapel while offering the bribe.
5. The Yoruba socio-cultural organisation, Afenifere, has rubbished the Executive Order 6 signed by President Muhammadu Buhari.
Afenifere said the travel ban placed on some prominent Nigerians was the beginning of absolute dictatorship in the country.
6. Femi Falana SAN, a human rights lawyer, has called for the withdrawal of the travel ban placed on 50 high-profile Nigerians by the President Muhammadu Buhari government.
Falana, in a statement on Sunday, described the directive, which is backed by an executive order signed by the president, as an “ingenious design to expose the Buhari administration to ridicule”.
7. Crisis has hit the Abia State chapter of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, as hundreds of aspirants who lost the party’s ticket at the just-concluded primary election, and their supporters have defected to the Social Democratic Party, SDP.
Some of the aspirants included: a two-time commissioner in Abia, Eze Chimkamnayo, who is seeking APGA ticket to represent Umunneochi State Constituency, and Obinna Igwe Samuel, vying for Ikwuano/Umuahia federal constituency, and Hon. Chukwuemeka Osoagbaka, who is re-contesting Ikwuano state constituency of Abia House of Assembly.
8. The Police Command in Sokoto State has confirmed the death of one person as a result of stray bullets fired when hoodlums allegedly attacked Gov. Aminu Tambuwal’s motorcade in Sokoto on Saturday.
The command’s spokesperson, DSP Cordelia Nwawe, told newsmen that one other person who was injured during the incident had been hospitalised.
9. President Muhammadu Buhari has paid tribute to a former justice of the Supreme Court of Nigeria, Justice Dennis Edozie, describing him as an accomplished jurist who diligently applied the law in principle.
According to him, Edozie will be long remembered for his meritorious and dedicated service to the nation, earning him a seat at the apex court for nearly three years.
10. The Enugu State Police Command has arrested one Festus Ozonwanji, for allegedly claiming to be a lawyer in court.
The State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ebere Amaraizu in a statement on Saturday said that the suspect was arrested on Oct. 11.
