1. Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, Sunday approved a partial dissolution of the State Executive Council. A Statement by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Professor Anthony Ijohor, (SAN), says four Commissioners and seven Special Advisers are to, however, retain their portfolios.
2. The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara State has reiterated its full loyalty to the Senate President, Bukola Saraki. In a statement signed by its chairman, Ishola Fulani, the state chapter of the ruling party, also claimed that the bond of unity and cohesion in the APC has been weakened, damaged, fractured and severed. He blamed Saraki’s trial on, desperate politicians who have hijacked the Code of Conduct Tribunal.
3. Several persons have been reportedly injured while attempting to scoop fuel from a broken pipeline at Dagbo-Pogo community in Niger State on Sunday. It was gathered that farmlands and houses belonging to more than 20 villages around the substation were razed. However, nobody died in the incident.
4. Report says the daughter of Alhaji Lasisi Oluboyo, a former deputy governor of Ondo State, has allegedly been found dead in her boyfriend’s room. According to the report, Adenike Oluboyo was found dead in the room of her man, Adeyemi Alao, in the Oke Aro area of Akure, the Ondo State capital.
5. The All Progressives Congress on Sunday disclosed that legal actions would be taken against the National Chairman of the Reformed-APC, Alhaji Buba Galadima, and other members of the group. APC Legal Adviser, Babatunde Ogala accused Galadima and other R-APC leaders of impersonation, fraudulent interpretation, conducts likely to breach public peace, breach of trademark and infringement of copyright.
6. Ahead of the July 14 governorship election in Ekiti State, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Ibrahim Idris, has deployed 30,000 police operatives to the state. Idris’ directive was contained in a statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, Jimoh Moshood which was issued on Sunday.
7. A Kenyan referee, Aden Marwa, who was to officiate at the ongoing World Cup in Russia, has been handed a life ban after being caught in a bribery web. He was filmed receiving a 600-dollar bribe during the Confederation of African Football (CAF) assignment in Ghana. Report claims that Marwa is one of 22 referees sanctioned by CAF in an unprecedented clean up, announced at the weekend.
8. Governors of the South-East states have resolved that no land would be made available for the establishment of cattle ranches in the zone. This decision was taken at their meeting in Enugu on Sunday.The meeting, which held at the Enugu State Government House, had the governors of Enugu (Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi), Ebonyi (Dave Umahi) in attendance, while Abia and Anambra were represented by the deputy governors.
9. The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, on Sunday charged President Muhammadu Buhari to make public the names and photographs of members of the All Progressives Congress, APC, and others involved in the alleged siphoning of repatriated $322 million.The party said Buhari should show his transparency by allowing Nigerians to know and see the faces of those supervising the alleged stealing of the repatriated fund in the guise of sharing it to the poorest of the poor. The Statement was signed by party spokesperson, Kola Ologbondiyan.
10. The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has announced a temporary suspension of the ongoing continuous voter registration, CVR, exercise. The commission said the exercise will be temporarily suspended on August 17 to allow more time for data capturing and production of permanent voter cards, PVCs. Augusta Ogakwu, INEC Secretary, made the announcement via a memo.
